Drakmord – Symphonic Metal/Progressive Band
Drakmord is a symphonic metal/progressive band formed by Gianfranco D’Alessandro in Venezuela in 2010. His vision was to create a metal band that blended elements of progressive, classical, and symphonic music.
The band made its debut at La Cima Del Rock 5 in 2011, closing the event with an exceptional performance.
After an extensive search and several lineup changes, the band finalized a lineup that led to the recording of their first single, Más Allá de la Eternidad (Beyond Eternity), featuring:
Andrés Gutierrez – Vocals
Gianfranco D’Alessandro – Lead guitar
Javier Lopez – Bass
Leonardo Leal – Keyboard
José Campos – Drums
Following their debut, the band sought a more complex and demanding sound to meet the musical expectations of each member. They opened the position for a second guitarist, which was filled by Joel Raga. His progressive metal influences brought a radical shift to the band’s sound.
After a few months, Leonardo Leal left the band and was replaced by Jery Warmen, solidifying the lineup for 2012:
Andrés Gutierrez – Vocals
Gianfranco D’Alessandro – Lead guitar
Joel Raga – Rhythm/Lead guitar
Javier Lopez – Bass
Jery Warmen – Keyboard
José Campos – Drums
From that point, the band’s sound evolved, reflecting the diverse influences of its members. Drakmord performed at various events, such as AtarashiiFest, Otisfest, and PDVSA La Estancia, establishing their presence in the Venezuelan metal scene. In 2013, the band began recording their EP Libertatem, but the process was delayed due to the departure of Andrés Gutierrez and Joel Raga.
In early 2014, Samuel Hernandez joined the band as a guitarist. After an unsuccessful search for a new vocalist, Samuel Hernandez took over as frontman. His vocal talent allowed the band to complete the recording of their first EP, Libertatem. To celebrate, Drakmord performed at events such as Otis & Friends on April 25, 2014, and many more across Venezuela.
The lineup at this point was:
Samuel Hernandez – Vocals
Gianfranco D’Alessandro – Lead guitar
Javier Lopez – Bass
Jery Warmen – Keyboard
José Campos – Drums
However, by 2016, due to Venezuela's severe political and social situation, the band members emigrated to different countries, leading to the band's hiatus.
In 2020, Gianfranco D’Alessandro reconnected with Javier Lopez from Chile to revive Drakmord, with the goal of releasing a new full-length album. Several international talents joined the project, including:
Sebastián Romero (Chile)
Veider (Venezuela)
Sebastián Unic (Germany)
This lineup began production on the album ITER, which was released in 2020. The first single from the album, The Prison, was launched, building anticipation for the full release.
After some discussions, the legendary Fabio Lione recorded the song Iter from the album of the same name as a special guest. The 2022 release of ITER garnered significant positive feedback from the international community and achieved strong sales. In the same year, Drakmord performed a sold-out show in Santiago, Chile.
Drakmord released the album with a hybrid video and lyric video for the song Until Eternity. In 2024, Drakmord released the music video for Iter featuring Fabio Lione and also the video for their biggest hit, The Prison.
In 2024, the band began the process of relocating to Europe. Due to complications during this transition, Sebastián Romero left the band, and Javier Lopez shifted away from his role as bassist, leading to a new lineup.
Now based in the Netherlands, Gianfranco D’Alessandro contacted Finnish vocalist Christian Palin (known for his work with Adagio, Fenyx Rising, Random Eyes, and collaborations with artists like Christopher Amott and Jeff Loomis) to join as the band’s new singer. Additionally, Mick Figura from Germany joined as the bassist.
Christian Palin – Vocals
Gianfranco D’Alessandro – Lead guitar
Veider – Lead guitar
Mick Figura – Bass
Sebastián Unic – Drums
The band is currently working on a new single with the updated lineup and preparing exciting surprises for their fans. Stay tuned for what’s to come!
